Massarina armatispora sp. nov. is described from dead intertidal mangrove wood collected in India and Hong Kong. The new taxon is compared with other Massarina species, and its placement in the genus Massarina is discussed

Figures from this paper

Massarina ingoldiana, a new ascomycete from freshwater habitats.
TLDR
This new species is characterized by its transversely septate ascospores that are surrounded by a large, gelatinous sheath and the pattern of asco- spore appendage enlargement is very similar to that of another freshwater ascomycete, Pleospora scirpicola. Expand
FRESHWATER ASCOMYCETES : ISTHMOSPORELLA PULCHRA GEN. AND SP. NOV.
TLDR
The as- cospores are distinctive from those of other genera in the Phaeosphaeriaceae in having a central two- celled isthmoid isthmus and are sur- rounded by a gelatinous sheath that expands in wa- ter, a feature characteristic of many aquatic ascomy- cetes. Expand
Massarina proprietunicata sp. nov., from submerged wood in streams in Hong Kong
TLDR
Massarina proprietunicata is characterized by verrucose ornamented ascospores bearing a narrow mucilaginous sheath, which is drawn out at the poles to form tapering appendages, with thickened and arrowhead-like tips. Expand
Tirispora mandoviana sp. nov. from Chorao mangroves, Goa, the west coast of India.
TLDR
This species differs from Tirispora unicaudata in the larger size of its ascomata and asci, and smaller ascospores, and a comparison with other mangrove fungi with related characters is given. Expand
Melaspilea mangrovei sp. nov., from Australian and Hong Kong mangroves
TLDR
The taxon is presently best placed in Melaspilea, although this genus is badly in need of taxonomic revision. Expand
Aquatic fungi on rachides of Livistona in the Western Province of Papua New Guinea
Collections of submerged Livistona rachides in the Western Province of Papua New Guinea yielded four new taxa of aquatic fungi. Astrosphaeriella aquatica sp. nov., Fluviatispora gen. nov., F.Expand
Saprobic Dothideomycetes in Thailand: Vaginatispora appendiculata sp. nov. (Lophiostomataceae) introduced based on morphological and molecular data
TLDR
Morphological character differences and analyses of combined LSU, TEF, SSU and ITS sequence datasets support the validity of the new species and its placement in Vaginatispora (Lophiostomataceae). Expand
Acuminatispora palmarum gen. et sp. nov. from mangrove habitats
TLDR
Phylogenetic relationships of related taxa were inferred from combined LSU, SSU, TEF1α, and RPB2 sequence data, and the analyses indicate that A. palmarum could be recognized as a distinct group in Pleosporales, but its familial placement needs to be further resolved. Expand
Wood-inhabiting marine fungi from the coast of Shandong, China III

Ultrastructural observations of asci, ascospores and appendages ofMassarina armatispora (Ascomycota)
TLDR
Massarina armatispora (Ascomycota, Dothideales, Lophiostomataceae) is described for the first time at the ultrastructural level and is shown to possess polar chambers formed from the episporium and which contained a fibrillar material. Expand
