Abstract A mass mortality phenomenon affecting a mollusc fauna on the Holocene tidal flat of the Bahia Blanca Estuary is analyzed. Specimens ofTagelus plebeius are located in a well-defined horizon, with both valves articulated and in life position. The mass mortality of theTagelus plebeius population is a consequence of its catastrophic burial by sandy sediment of fluvial origin.
