Abstract Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) can mitigate effects of intermittent energy production from renewable energy sources and play a critical role in peak shaving and demand charge management. To optimally size the BESS from an economic perspective, the tradeoff between BESS investment costs, lifetime, and revenue from utility bill savings along with microgrid ancillary services must be taken into account. The optimal size of a BESS is solved via a stochastic optimization problem… Expand

A two-stage stochastic model for energy storage planning in a microgrid incorporating bilateral contracts and demand response program
Simulation results demonstrate that whether operating as islanded or grid-connected, favorable yearly cost savings are achieved by optimal ESS planning, and the scheduled load responses and signed bilateral contracts play important roles. Expand
Robust optimization based energy management of a fuel cell/ultra-capacitor hybrid electric vehicle under uncertainty
A robust optimization (RO) based energy management system (EMS) is studied in order to ensure optimal yet robust performance under uncertain parameters and the adopted RO based algorithm includes uncertainty in the cost function and constraints set and thus protects the system performance from feasibility and optimality issues. Renewable Energy Sources and Responsive Demand. Do We Need Congestion Management in the Distribution Grid?
Possible congestion management mechanisms for price-responsive electric vehicle demand in electricity distribution networks are investigated and grid tariffs that are fixed ex ante, based on network load, were found to make the problem worse compared to the base-case scenario of flat tariffs.
