Two Gram-negative, non-spore-forming, slightly halophilic gliding bacterial strains, DSW-8(T) and DSW-9, were isolated from sea water off a Korean island, Dokdo, of the East Sea, Korea, and their taxonomic position was investigated by a polyphasic study. The two strains grew optimally at 30 degrees C and in the presence of 2-3% (w/v) NaCl. Strains DSW-8(T) and DSW-9 were characterized chemotaxonomically as containing MK-6 as the predominant menaquinone and iso-C(17:0) 3-OH, iso-C(15:0) and iso…

TLDR
On the basis of phenotypic properties, phylogenetic and genomic data, strains YkJ-103T and YKJ-105 should be placed in the genus Psychrobacter as members of a new species, for which the name Psych Robacter jeotgali sp.

Muricauda ruestringensis gen. nov., sp. nov., a facultatively anaerobic, appendaged bacterium from German North Sea intertidal sediment.

TLDR
Evidence based on phenotypic characteristics and 16S rDNA analysis supports the conclusion that this bacterium is distinct from its nearest relative, Zobellia uliginosa, and from the other genera of the Flavobacteriaceae.

From 16S rDNA sequence analyses, it is considered that some strains that have been attributed to the genus Nocardioides should be taxonomically re-evaluated.

DETERMINATION OF CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM OF MARINE BACTERIA

TLDR
The decrease in penicillinase synthesis that occurs with the use of alkyl sulfates having an increasing number of carbons is in accord with Steinhardt's conclusion that there is an increase in anion affinity with the rise in chain length within a homologous series of anionic detergents.
