The presence of flat bands is a source of localization in lattice systems. While flat bands are often unstable with respect to interactions between the particles, they can persist in certain cases. We consider a diamond ladder with transverse hopping that possesses such stable flat bands and show that many-body localization appears in the presence of interactions. We demonstrate that the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis is violated and verify localization by time evolution of local…

Many-body localization transition from flat-band fine tuning

Translationally invariant flatband Hamiltonians with interactions lead to a many-body localization transition. Our models are obtained from single particle lattices hosting a mix of flat and

Heat percolation in many-body flat-band localizing systems

Translationally invariant finetuned single-particle lattice Hamiltonians host flat bands only. Suitable short-range many-body interactions result in complete suppression of particle transport due to

Local Hilbert Space Fragmentation and Out-of-Time-Ordered Crystals

Quantum many-body models with both Hilbert space fragmentation and non-stationarity have recently been identified. Hilbert space fragmentation does not immediately imply non-stationarity. However,

Out-of-Time-Ordered Crystals and Fragmentation

Is a spontaneous perpetual reversal of the arrow of time possible? The out-of-time-ordered correlator (OTOC) is a standard measure of irreversibility, quantum scrambling, and the arrow of time. The

Line-graph-lattice crystal structures of stoichiometric materials

The origin of many quantum-material phenomena is intimately related to the presence of flat electronic bands. In quantum simulation, such bands have been realized through line-graph lattices, a class

A Key Observable for Linear Thermalization

It has been attracting much attention how an isolated quantum many-body system thermalizes, that is, how it relaxes to a thermal equilibrium state. For such studies, the fundamental issue is to

Experimental Detection of the Correlation Rényi Entropy in the Central Spin Model.

This work designs a nuclear magnetic resonance experiment that directly measures the amplitudes of the multispin correlations and uses them to compute the evolution of what is called correlation Rényi entropy, which keeps growing even after the equilibration of the entanglement entropy.

Information dynamics in a model with Hilbert space fragmentation

The fully frustrated ladder – a quasi-1D geometrically frustrated spin one half Heisenberg model – is non-integrable with local conserved quantities on rungs of the ladder, inducing the local
