The clinical efficacy of the therapeutic plasma used in the treatment of congenital and acquired severe coagulopathy depends on the potency of clotting factor and inhibitor activities. The composition of plasma strongly depends on the conditions under which it is produced. A low citrate anticoagulant-to-blood ratio, short intervals between donation and plasma separation and rapid freezing markedly improve the preservation of unstable coagulation factors.
