Mangrove kingfisher (Halcyon senegaloides) has an extensive coastal distribution from southern Somalia to the Eastern Cape, South Africa (Fry et al., 1988, 1992). However, in the Zambezi and Save River valley it ranges far inland; in the Save valley extending at least 120 km or more inland (Allan et al., 2000: 21) and in the Zambezi valley approximately 150 km inland to the Caia-Inhamitanga district (authors, pers. obs.).
