This paper presents the findings of a research study which attempts to investigate the nature of the relationships between organisational models and staged growth patterns of information systems (IS) development. The particular focus of the study is on the strategic planning processes for IS. A complex model was developed to examine the dual relationships between organisational and IS strategy formulation processes and evaluated in over 50 organisations.
