Hyperprolactinemia is a frequent cause of anovulatory sterility, although spontaneous pregnancy may occur occasionally. Dopaminergic treatment is highly effective for both idiopathic and tumoral hyperprolactinemia. If the only cause of infertility is chronic anovulation due to hyperprolactinemia, a 60-80% pregnancy rate can be achieved. These results mean that surgical treatment is still needed only rarely.
