The concept of an MIS is not innovative, as it has been successfully applied to management for several decades. What is innovative, however, is the application of an MIS to mental health services delivery, and tailoring a system to the specific needs of a mental health agency. The development of computer assisted MIS started in the 1950's in industry for planning and control. MISs now have wide application in industry, hospitals, and many businesses.
