We introduce a new approach to create and detect Majorana fermions using optically trapped 1D fermionic atoms. In our proposed setup, two internal states of the atoms couple via an optical Raman transition-simultaneously inducing an effective spin-orbit interaction and magnetic field-while a background molecular BEC cloud generates s-wave pairing for the atoms. The resulting cold-atom quantum wire supports Majorana fermions at phase boundaries between topologically trivial and nontrivial…

We propose an alternative experimental scheme to detect the non-Abelian statistics of the Majorana fermions (MF) with a trapped atomic bosonic gas subject to a spin-orbit coupling in 1D optical

TLDR
It is shown that the Majorana-type excitations can be created or annihilated upon constraining the profile of a trapping potential and/or an internal scattering barier in ultracold fermionic gases.

TLDR
This work points out a novel path towards the creation of exotic superfluid states by exploiting the competition between long-range and short-range interactions.

TLDR
The ability to probe individual atomic wires in situ paves the way to quantitatively study equilibrium and transport properties of strongly interacting 1D Fermi gases.

We propose a method to prepare Majorana pairs at the corners of imprinted defects on a two-dimensional cold-atom optical lattice with $s$-wave superfluid pairing. Different from previous proposals

We report on a proposal for engineering a one-dimensional topological superconductor hosting Majorana zero-energy modes pinned at the edges of a spin-orbit coupled and electron-electron interacting
Spin-Orbit Coupled Quantum Gases
In this review we will discuss the experimental and theoretical progresses in studying spin-orbit coupled degenerate atomic gases during the last two years. We shall first review a series of
Localization and oscillations of Majorana fermions in a two-dimensional electron gas coupled with d-wave superconductors
We study the localization and oscillation properties of the Majorana fermions that arise in a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) with spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and a Zeeman field coupled with a
