Recent work on bringing classical CSP techniques to distrib uted environments has focused either on backtrack search or on lo cal consistency. We consider the “natural” issue of combining t he two techniques. A new distributed algorithm, called MHDC (Main taining Hierarchical Distributed Consistency), is presen ted which incorporates distributed consistency into asynchronous b acktracking.
