An experimental system for magnetophoretic velocimetry, which could determine the volume magnetic susceptibility of a single particle dispersed in a liquid phase from a magnetophoretic velocity, has been developed. A micrometer-sized high-gradient magnetic field could be generated in a capillary by a pair of iron pole pieces in a superconducting magnet (10 T). The magnetophoretic behavior of a single particle in a capillary flow system was investigated under the inhomogeneous magnetic field…
Magnetic susceptibility measurement of single iron/cobalt carbonyl microcrystal by atmospheric magnetophoresis
TLDR
The use of an innovative atmospheric magnetophoresis, which enables us to measure the mass magnetic susceptibility and mass of a microparticle simultaneously, was demonstrated and shows that themicroparticle was paramagnetic.
Magnetic separation of general solid particles realised by a permanent magnet
TLDR
It is demonstrated for the first time that ensembles of heterogeneous particles can be dynamically separated into five fractions by the low field produced by neodymium (NdFeB) magnets during short-duration microgravity (μg).
Magnetic Ejection and Oscillation of Diamagnetic Crystals Observed in Microgravity
Translations induced by a field gradient force are newly reported on various diamagnetic crystals that are released in microgravity (µG) produced by a drop capsule. A crystal released near a field
Horizontal deflection of single particle in a paramagnetic fluid
TLDR
The horizontal deflection behaviour of a single particle in paramagnetic fluids under a high-gradient superconducting magnetic field is described, which could potentially form the basis of a new approach to separating materials based on a combination of density and susceptibility.
Falling velocity magnetometry of ferromagnetic microparticles
Diamagnetic susceptibility of single micro-particles detected by free translational motions in field gradient
Free translational motion of a solid particle from magnetic-field centre, caused by a repulsive force due to field gradient dB/dx, was observed in microgravity μG with negligible effect of viscous

TLDR
The observed magnetic susceptibility of the micro-organic droplets was reciprocally proportional to its radius in each case, and the interfacial concentration of Dy(III) was determined from the proportional constant.
