Abstract A magneto-orbital coupling mechanism is proposed to account for the weak energy gap at the Fermi energy in the ( π , 0 ) ordered SDW state of a realistic three-orbital model for iron pnictides involving d xz , d yz , and d xy Fe orbitals. The orbital mixing terms between the d xy and d xz / d yz orbitals, which are important in reproducing the orbital composition of the elliptical electron pockets at ( ± π , 0 ) and ( 0 , ± π ) , are shown to play a key role in the energy gap formation… Expand

Magnetism and charge dynamics in iron pnictides
For the iron pnictide superconductors, a first-principles calculation of the magnetic state shows that correlations are important if we are to understand both the paramagnetic and magnetic phases.Expand
Enhanced Orbital Degeneracy in Momentum Space for LaOFeAs
The Fermi surfaces (FS) of LaOFeAs (in $k_z$=0 plane) consist of two hole-type circles around $\Gamma$ point, which do not touch each other, and two electron-type co-centered ellipses around M point,Expand
Three orbital model for the iron-based superconductors

Near-degeneracy of several pairing channels in multiorbital models for the Fe pnictides
Weak-coupling approaches to the pairing problem in the iron pnictide superconductors have predicted a wide variety of superconducting ground states. We argue here that this is due both to theExpand
The role of orbital order in the stabilization of the (π, 0) ordered magnetic state in a minimal two-band model for iron pnictides
Spin wave excitations and stability of the (π, 0) ordered magnetic state are investigated in a minimal two-band itinerant-electron model for iron pnictides. Presence of hopping anisotropy generates aExpand
