High-quality (001)-oriented (pseudo-cubic notation) ferromagnetic YTiO3 thin films were epitaxially synthesized in a layer-by-layer way by pulsed laser deposition. Structural, magnetic, and electronic properties were characterized by reflection-high-energy-electron-diffraction, X-ray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometry, and element-resolved resonant soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy. To reveal ferromagnetism of the constituent titanium ions, X-ray magnetic circular dichroism…

A Living-Dead Magnetic Layer at the Surface of Ferrimagnetic DyTiO3 Thin Films.
The magnetic properties of epitaxial Dy TiO3 thin films are reported and it is shown how capping the DyTiO3 film can help increase the Ti3+ content near the surface and thus recover a better ferrimagnetic behavior.
Decoupling Carrier Concentration and Electron-Phonon Coupling in Oxide Heterostructures Observed with Resonant Inelastic X-Ray Scattering.
This work both showcases a feasible method to extract the electron-phonon coupling in superlattices and unveils a potential route for tuning this coupling, which is often associated with superconductivity in SrTiO_{3}-based systems.

Soft X-ray absorption of thin films detected using substrate luminescence: a performance analysis.
A systematic performance analysis ofXEOL is presented with the aim of providing guidelines for its advantages and pitfalls, enabling a wider use of this method by the thin film community, and demonstrating the equivalence between XEOL and X-ray transmission measurements for thin films.

Epitaxial growth and the magnetic properties of orthorhombic YTiO3 thin films

Titanium dxy ferromagnetism at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface.
Spectroscopic investigations of the magnetism using element-specific techniques, including X-ray magnetic circular dichroism andX-ray absorption spectroscopy, are reported, finding direct evidence for in-plane ferromagnetic order at the interface with Ti(3+) character in the dxy orbital of the anisotropic t2g band.

Mid-infrared synchrotron microspectroscopy has been used to determine quantitatively the pressure-induced reduction of the optical bandgap of YTiO(3), and the results are interpreted on the basis of the structural and possible orbital orientation changes.
Strong magnetic x-ray dichroism in 2p absorption spectra of 3d transition-metal ions.
From atomic calculations in crystal-field symmetry, a very strong circular and linear dichroism in the 2p x-ray absorption edges of magnetically ordered 3d transition-metal ions is found, providing a basis for the study of magnetic x-rays dichroISM on materials with localized 3d electrons.
Carrier-controlled ferromagnetism in SrTiO3
