OAK-B135 We consider an accretion flow model originally proposed by Bisnovatyi-Kogan and Ruzmaikin (1974), which has been confirmed in recent 3D MHD simulations. In this model, the accreting gas drags in a strong poloidal magnetic field to the center such that the accumulated field disrupts the axisymmetric accretion flow at a relatively large radius. Inside the disruption radius, the gas accretes as discrete blobs or streams with a velocity much less than the free-fall velocity. Almost the…

Magnetically Arrested Disks and the Origin of Poynting Jets: A Numerical Study
The dynamics and structure of accretion disks, which accumulate a vertical magnetic field in their centers, are investigated using two- and three-dimensional MHD simulations. The central field can be
Efficient Generation of Jets from Magnetically Arrested Accretion on a Rapidly Spinning Black Hole
We describe global, 3D, time-dependent, non-radiative, general-relativistic, magnetohydrodynamic simulations of accreting black holes (BHs). The simulations are designed to transport a large amount
Magnetized advective accretion flows: formation of magnetic barriers in magnetically arrested discs
We discuss the importance of large scale strong magnetic field in the removal of angular momentum outward, as well as the possible origin of different kinds of magnetic barrier in advective,
WIND-DRIVEN ACCRETION IN TRANSITIONAL PROTOSTELLAR DISKS
Transitional protostellar disks have inner cavities heavily depleted in dust and gas, yet most show signs of ongoing accretion, often at rates comparable to full disks. We show that recent
Shearing box simulations of accretion disk winds
The launching process of a magnetically driven outflow from an accretion disk is investigated in a local shearing box model, which allows a study of the feedback between accretion and angular
Transport of Large-Scale Poloidal Flux in Black Hole Accretion
We report on a global, three-dimensional GRMHD simulation of an accretion torus embedded in a large-scale vertical magnetic field orbiting a Schwarzschild black hole. This simulation investigates how
Powerful radiative jets in supercritical accretion discs around non-spinning black holes
We describe a set of simulations of super-critical accretion onto a non-rotating supermassive BH. The accretion flow is radiation pressure dominated and takes the form of a geometrically thick disk
Magnetohydrodynamic simulations of black hole accretion
We discuss the results of three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations, using a pseudo-Newtonian potential, of thin disk (h/r≈0.1) accretion onto black holes We find (i) that magnetic stresses
General relativistic radiation magnetohydrodynamic simulations of thin magnetically arrested discs
The classical, relativistic thin-disk theory of Novikov and Thorne (NT) predicts a maximum accretion efficiency of 40% for an optically thick, radiatively efficient accretion disk around a maximally
Angular momentum transport in thin magnetically arrested discs
In accretion disks with large-scale ordered magnetic fields, the magnetorotational instability (MRI) is marginally suppressed, so other processes may drive angular momentum transport leading to

Three-dimensional Magnetohydrodynamic Simulations of Spherical Accretion
We present three-dimensional numerical magnetohydrodynamic simulations of radiatively inefficient spherical accretion onto a black hole. The simulations are initialized with a Bondi flow and with a
Implosive accretion and outbursts of active galactic nuclei
A model and simulation code have been developed for time-dependent axisymmetric disk accretion onto a compact object including for the first time the influence of an ordered magnetic field. The
Three-dimensional Magnetohydrodynamic Simulations of Radiatively Inefficient Accretion Flows
We present three-dimensional MHD simulations of rotating radiatively inefficient accretion flows onto black holes. We continuously inject magnetized matter into the computational domain near the
Magnetic field dragging in accretion discs
We consider a thin accretion disc of half-thickness H, vertically threaded by a magnetic field. The field is due to contributions from both the disc current and an external current (giving rise to a
Magnetic Stress at the Marginally Stable Orbit: Altered Disk Structure, Radiation, and Black Hole Spin Evolution
Magnetic connections to the plunging region can exert stresses on the inner edge of an accretion disk around a black hole. We recompute the relativistic corrections to the thin-disk dynamics
The accretion of matter by a collapsing star in the presence of a magnetic field
The exact nonstationary solution for the variation of the magnetic field in the Schwarzschild metric with a given spherically symmetric flow is obtained. Initially a homogeneous magnetic field
The Disk-Jet Connection in Microquasars and Active Galactic Nuclei
We propose a new model for the disk-jet connection in black hole X-ray transients and active galactic nuclei. In our model, the inner part of the accretion disk around the central black hole switches
The accretion of matter by a collapsing star in the presence of a magnetic field. II. Selfconsistent stationary picture
The stationary two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic solution for the accretion of the matter without pressure into a gravitating centre of a black hole is obtained. It is assumed that the magnetic

TLDR
This work proposes a new process in which periods of accretion from a thin disk, and the associated spin-up of the black hole, alternate with the periods of no accretion and magnetic transfer of energy from the black Hole to the disk.
Magnetic interchange instability of accretion disks
A study is made of the nonlinear evolution of the magnetic interchange or buoyancy instability of a differentially rotating disk threaded by an ordered vertical magnetic field. As a model for the
