Context. Magnetic fields play an important role in the dynamics and evolution of galaxies; however, the amplification and ordering of the initial seed fields are not fully understood. The nearby spiral galaxy M 31 is an ideal laboratory for extensive studies of magnetic fields. Aims. Our aim was to measure the intrinsic structure of the magnetic fields in M 31 and compare them with dynamo models of field amplification. Methods. The intensity of polarized synchrotron emission and its orientation…

Updated constraints on WIMP dark matter annihilation by radio observations of M31
The present work derived the robust constraints on annihilating WIMP parameters utilizing new radio observations of M31, as well as new studies of its dark matter distribution and other properties.

The polarized disk in M 31 at lambda 6 cm
We present a radio continuum survey of M 31 at λ 6.2 cm with high sensitivity in total power and polarization, observed with the 100-m Effelsberg dish with an angular resolution of 2$\farcm$ 4. (1)

Multi-scale radio-infrared correlations in M 31 and M 33: The role of magnetic fields and star formation
Interstellar magnetic fields and the propagation of cosmic ray electrons have an important impact on the radio-infrared (IR) correlation in galaxies. This becomes evident when studying different
A detailed study of the radio-FIR correlation in NGC 6946 with Herschel-PACS/SPIRE from KINGFISH
We derive the distribution of the synchrotron spectral index across NGC 6946 and investigate the correlation between the radio continuum (synchrotron) and far-infrared (FIR) emission using the
Molecular gas in the inner 0.7 kpc-radius ring of M 31
The gaseous disc of M31, traced by atomic, ionised and molecular gas together with dust emission, is mainly characterise d by a large ring of 10kpc radius, and an inner ring of 0.7kpc radius, in
H i KINEMATICS AND DYNAMICS OF MESSIER 31
We present a new deep 21 cm survey of the Andromeda galaxy, based on high-resolution observations performed with the Synthesis Telescope and the 26 m antenna at the Dominion Radio Astrophysical
The magnetic field structure of the central region in M 31
Context. The Andromeda Galaxy (M 31) is the nearest grand-design spiral galaxy. Thus far, most studies in the radio regime concentrated on the 10 kpc ring. The central region of M 31 has
Magnetic field structures of galaxies derived from analysis of Faraday rotation measures, and perspectives for the SKA
Context. The forthcoming new-generation radio telescope SKA (Square Kilometre Array) and its precursors will provide a rapidly growing number of polarized radio sources. Aims. Our analysis looks at
The microphysics and macrophysics of cosmic rays
This review paper commemorates a century of cosmic ray research, with emphasis on the plasma physics aspects. Cosmic rays comprise only ∼10−9 of interstellar particles by number, but collectively
Magnetic fields of galaxies
Intensity of galactic magnetic field is minute. it is measured in microgausses. However, the field has a record scale measured in ki-loparsecs. (Unfortunately, the Guinness book does not mention this
