We apply the many-particle Schrödinger-Newton equation, which describes the coevolution of a many-particle quantum wave function and a classical space-time geometry, to macroscopic mechanical objects. By averaging over motions of the objects' internal degrees of freedom, we obtain an effective Schrödinger-Newton equation for their centers of mass, which can be monitored and manipulated at quantum levels by state-of-the-art optomechanics experiments. For a single macroscopic object moving…

Problems with the Newton-Schrödinger equations
We examine the origin of the Newton–Schrodinger equations (NSEs) that play an important role in alternative quantum theories (AQT), macroscopic quantum mechanics and gravity-induced decoherence. We
Conditions for the classicality of the center of mass of many-particle quantum states
We discuss the conditions for the classicality of quantum states with a very large number of identical particles. By treating the center of mass as a Bohmian particle, we show that it follows a
Effects of Newtonian gravitational self-interaction in harmonically trapped quantum systems
A thorough study of the effects of the Schrödinger–Newton equation for a micron-sized sphere trapped in a harmonic oscillator potential covering both the effect on the energy eigenstates and the dynamical behaviour of squeezed states.

The possibility of a theory in which only matter is quantised, and gravity is described by the classical theory of general relativity, even at the fundamental level, is not ruled out by any
Searching for signatures of quantum gravity in quantum gases
We explore the possibility of testing the quantum nature of the gravitational field with an ensemble of ultra-cold atoms. The use of many microscopic particles may circumvent some of the experimental
The wave-corpuscle properties of microscopic particlesin the nonlinear quantum-mechanical systems
We debate first the properties of quantum mechanics and its difficulties and the reasons resulting in these diffuculties and its direction of development. The fundamental principles of nonlinear
Massive non-classical states and the observation of quantum gravity: a user's manual
Recent advances in cooling, control, and measurement of mechanical systems in the quantum regime have opened the possibility of the first direct observation of quantum gravity, at scales achievable
Newtonian Self-Gravitation in the Neutral Meson System
We derive the effect of the Schr\"odinger--Newton equation, which can be considered as a non-relativistic limit of classical gravity, for a composite quantum system in the regime of high energies.
Short distance modification of the quantum virial theorem
Abstract In this letter, we will analyse the deformation of a semi-classical gravitational system from minimal measurable length scale. In the semi-classical approximation, the gravitational field
Semiclassical Newtonian Field Theories Based On Stochastic Mechanics I
Continuing the development of the ZSM-Newton/Coulomb approach to semiclassical Newtonian gravity/electrodynamics [1], we formulate a ZSM-Newton/Coulomb version of the large N approximation scheme

The Road to Reality : A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe
For the title of his latest epic, The Road to Reality , Roger Penrose has selected a metaphor that appears frequently in popular expositions of physics. It is no wonder that the phrase has become a
