Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) is a life-threatening complication in children with rheumatic diseases, particularly systemic-onset juvenile chronic arthritis (SOJCA). Because of the potential fatality of this condition, prompt recognition and immediate therapeutic intervention are important.
