OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to review MR imaging findings in the ipsilateral breast in women with percutaneously proven breast cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS Retrospective review was performed of records of 70 consecutive women with percutaneously proven unilateral breast cancer who were considered candidates for breast conservation surgery and who had preoperative MR imaging of the ipsilateral breast. MR images and medical records were reviewed. RESULTS MR imaging identified…
Preliminary Local Experience with Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging on Surgical Planning and Outcomes
TLDR
Breast MRI detected tumours occult on mammography and ultrasound and estimated tumour size most accurately and two-thirds of additional lesions detected on MRI were non-malignant.

Clinical Experience of 3T Breast MRI in Detecting the Additional Lesions in Breast Cancer Patients
TLDR
In women with recently diagnosed breast cancer, 3.0-T MR imaging showed additional suspicious findings in 33.7% and the sensitivity and specificity for detecting additional breast cancer was 100% and 89.3%, respectively.
Role of breast MRI in the preoperative evaluation of patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer.
TLDR
For patients with a new diagnosis of breast cancer, breast MRI in a mid-sized regional hospital depicts unsuspected malignant lesions in both the ipsilateral and contralateral breasts in proportions consistent with the results of earlier studies at larger institutions.
Diagnostic Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Contralateral Prophylactic Mastectomy
TLDR
MRI changes the surgical treatment of breast cancer among subsets of women diagnosed with breast cancer, suggesting there are hidden monetary and nonmonetary costs associated with its use.
The Utility of Breast MRI in the Management of Breast Cancer
TLDR
Patients undergoing evaluation for contralateral disease, invasive lobular carcinoma and assessment of chemotherapeutic response may derive a more meaningful benefit from MRI.

Breast MRI in the evaluation of eligibility for accelerated partial breast irradiation.
TLDR
The results suggest that MRI before accelerated partial breast irradiation may be of benefit to patients to ensure they do not have multifocal or multicentric disease, remote from the lumpectomy bed.

Staging of suspected breast cancer: effect of MR imaging and MR-guided biopsy.
TLDR
MR imaging allows detection of mammographically and clinically occult foci of carcinoma in patients with suspected breast cancer.
Preoperative MR imaging-guided needle localization of breast lesions.
TLDR
The positive predictive value of MR imaging-guided needle localization was comparable to that reported for mammographically guided needle localization and was highest in women with synchronous breast cancer.
Multicentric and multifocal cancer: whole-breast US in preoperative evaluation.
TLDR
Whole-breast US complements mammography in the preoperative evaluation of patients with breast cancer, particularly when breast conservation is contemplated.
Breast MR imaging screening in 192 women proved or suspected to be carriers of a breast cancer susceptibility gene: preliminary results.
TLDR
The accuracy of MR imaging is significantly higher than that of conventional imaging in screening high-risk women and can be caused by an atypical manifestation of hereditary breast cancers at both conventional and MR imaging and by contrast material enhancement associated with hormonal stimulation.
Occult cancer in women with dense breasts: detection with screening US--diagnostic yield and tumor characteristics.
TLDR
Screening US can depict small, early-stage, otherwise occult cancers similar in size and stage to mammographically identified nonpalpable cancers and smaller and lower in stage than palpable cancers in dense breasts.
First experiences in screening women at high risk for breast cancer with MR imaging
TLDR
Investigating whether magnetic resonance imaging in addition to the normal surveillance could detect cancers otherwise missed found it promising in screening young women at high risk for breast cancer, as it can advance the detection of cancers still occult at mammography and physical examination; but the cost may be considerable.
Clinical utility of bilateral whole-breast US in the evaluation of women with dense breast tissue.
TLDR
Bilateral whole-breast US, when performed in patients with dense (BI-RADS category 3 or 4 density) breast tissue, is useful in detecting breast cancer not discovered with mammography or clinical breast examination.
Staging of symptomatic primary breast cancer with MR imaging.
TLDR
MR imaging of the breast has value in the preoperative locoregional staging of symptomatic primary breast cancer and is useful in planning a single definitive surgical resection in patients with breast cancer.
Utility of magnetic resonance imaging in the management of breast cancer: evidence for improved preoperative staging.
TLDR
MRI would be valuable as a staging tool in the preoperative setting even if the cost is in the range of $1,300 to $2,000, so it is reasonable to refine this technique for clinical use to help plan the most appropriate surgical intervention and possibly reduce costs.
Breast lesions detected on MR imaging: features and positive predictive value.
TLDR
Among MR imaging-detected breast lesions referred for biopsy, carcinoma was found in 25%, of which half were DCIS, and features with the highest PPV were spiculated margin, rim enhancement, and irregular shape for mass lesions and segmental or clumped linear and ductal enhancement for nonmass lesions.
