We have determined 194 Faraday rotation measures (RMs) of polarized extragalactic radio sources using new, multi-channel polarization observations at frequencies around 1.4 GHz from the Very Large Array in the Galactic plane at 17° ⩽ l ⩽ 63° and 205° ⩽ l ⩽ 253°. This catalog fills in gaps in the RM coverage of the Galactic plane between the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey and Southern Galactic Plane Survey. Using this catalog we have tested the validity of recently proposed axisymmetric and…
Three-Dimensional Structure of the Magnetic Field in the Disk of the Milky Way
We present Rotation Measures (RM) of the diffuse Galactic synchrotron emission from the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey (CGPS) and compare them to RMs of extragalactic sources in order to study the
A NEW MODEL OF THE GALACTIC MAGNETIC FIELD
A new, much-improved model of the Galactic magnetic field (GMF) is presented. We use the WMAP7 Galactic synchrotron emission map and more than 40,000 extragalactic rotation measures to constrain the
Helicity in the large-scale Galactic magnetic field
We search for observational signatures of magnetic helicity in data from all-sky radio polarization surveys of the Milky Way Galaxy. Such a detection would help confirm the dynamo origin of the field
Revisiting Rotation Measures from the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey: the Magnetic Field in the Disk of the Outer Galaxy
Faraday rotation provides a valuable tracer of magnetic fields in the interstellar medium; catalogs of Faraday rotation measures provide key observations for studies of the Galactic magnetic field.
Faraday Rotation of Extended Emission as a Probe of the Large-Scale Galactic Magnetic Field
The Galactic magnetic field is an integral constituent of the interstellar medium (ISM), and knowledge of its structure is crucial to understanding Galactic dynamics. The Rotation Measures (RM) of
Comparing polarized synchrotron and thermal dust emission in the galactic plane
As the next step toward an improved large scale Galactic magnetic field model, we present a simple comparison of polarised synchrotron and thermal dust emission on the Galactic plane. We find that
The complex large-scale magnetic fields in the first Galactic quadrant as revealed by the Faraday depth profile disparity
The Milky Way is one of the very few spiral galaxies known to host large-scale magnetic field reversals. The existence of the field reversal in the first Galactic quadrant near the Sagittarius spiral
The Connection between Supernova Remnants and the Galactic Magnetic Field: A Global Radio Study of the Axisymmetric Sample
The study of supernova remnants (SNRs) is fundamental to understanding the chemical enrichment and magnetism in galaxies, including our own Milky Way. In an effort to understand the connection
MAGNETIC FIELD STRUCTURE OF THE LARGE MAGELLANIC CLOUD FROM FARADAY ROTATION MEASURES OF DIFFUSE POLARIZED EMISSION
We present a study of the magnetic field of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), carried out using diffuse polarized synchrotron emission data at 1.4 GHz acquired at the Parkes Radio Telescope and the
The LOFAR view of cosmic magnetism
The origin of magnetic fields in the Universe is an open proble m in astrophysics and fundamental physics. Polarization observations with the forthcoming large radio telescopes will open a new era in

Rotation Measures of Extragalactic Sources behind the Southern Galactic Plane: New Insights into the Large-Scale Magnetic Field of the Inner Milky Way
We present new Faraday rotation measures (RMs) for 148 extragalactic radio sources behind the southern Galactic plane (253° ≤ l ≤ 356°, |b| ≤ 1.5°), and use these data in combination with published
Pulsar Rotation Measures and the Large-Scale Structure of the Galactic Magnetic Field
The large-scale magnetic field of our Galaxy can be probed in three dimensions using Faraday rotation of pulsar signals. We report on the determination of 223 rotation measures from polarization
Pulsar rotation measures and the magnetic structure of our Galaxy
We have obtained 63 rotation measures (RMs) from polarization observations of southern pulsars, of which 54 are new measurements and three are varied from previous values. The new pulsar RM data at
The large-scale magnetic field in the fourth Galactic quadrant
Aims. We have re-examined the published rotation measures (RMs) of extragalactic point sources and pulsars with |b| < 3 ◦ to study the magnetic field in the fourth Galactic quadrant. Methods. We
Observational constraints on models for the interstellar magnetic field in the Galactic disk
Aims. Our purpose is to place firm observational constraints on the three most widely used theoretical models for the spatial configuration of the large-scale interstellar magnetic field in the

We present a study of the vertical magnetic field of the Milky Way toward the Galactic poles, determined from observations of Faraday rotation toward more than 1000 polarized extragalactic radio
The Structure of the Magnetic Field in the Outer Galaxy from Rotation Measure Observations through the Disk
High-resolution 21 cm polarization data from the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey are yielding radio sources with well-defined rotation measures (RMs) at a solid angle density of roughly 1 source
Radio observational constraints on Galactic 3D-emission models
Context. Our position inside the Galaxy requires 3D-modelling to obtain the distribution of the Galactic magnetic field, cosmic- ray (CR) electrons and thermal electrons. Aims. Our intention is to
