This research aims to understand a model to increase reading interest
according to the characters in novel Perpustakaan Ajaib Bibbi Bokken. This
research used pragmatic approach and the focus is a model to increase reading
interest. The type of this research is library research. The researcher collected the
data by reading, recording and documentation method. The sources of this
research are primary data, which is in the form of text contained in the novel
entitled Perpustakaan Ajaib Bibbi Bokken and secondary data are textbooks,
research reports, theses, articles, papers, resources from the internet and other
information sources both printed and electronic or digital which related to the
object of this research. The validity of data are persistence or constancy
observation, peer examination through discussions and discussions with experts.
The method of analyzing data is text analysis. The results of this research are
model to increase reading interest according to the characters in novel
Perpustakaan Ajaib Bibbi Bokken there are 1) Benefits of reading, they are a)
reading can develop imagination; b) reading can make personal satisfy or gain
pleasure; c) reading can develop intellectual and good character; d) reading can
expand knowledge and insight; e) reading make smart. 2) Factors of reading
interest are a) curiosity about facts, theories and principles, knowledge, and
information; b) internal motivation, desirability; c) availability of reading
materials; d) families environment (parents). 3) The efforts to increase reading
interest are a) introducing the work of writers; b) introducing biography of
figures; c) introducing the books; d) giving some school task; e) giving a reading
habits; f) telling story at bedtime; g) discussing books; h) celebrating of the
national book day by distributing free book to children. The result of this research
hopefully to use a strategy model to increase people’s reading interest especially
childrens and teenagers.
