  • Direct observations of the wolf spider Schizocosa ocreata (Walckenaer) in a deciduous wood s during its breeding season indicated that soil moisture, deciduous leaf litter, and herbaceous vegetation influenced the patterns of their distribution and movement . Areas of high soil moisture, noncompressed litter, and a micro-canopy of herbaceous vegetation comprised the microhabitat wit h highest spider density.
