The S.H. 37 Motor Road is one of the oldest roads in the hill area of Kumaon in India. The road and its permanent structures have been continually affected by landslides, settlement, creep, and rock falls. The two geological formations there consist of sandstone and shales, and dolomite and slate. This paper describes investigations made at five specific sites on the road where such incidents have occurred.
