We analyze M theory compactified on (K3×S 1 )/Z 2 where the Z 2 changes the sign of the three-form gauge field, acts on S 1 as a parity transformation, and on K3 as an involution with eight fixed points preserving SU(2) holonomy. At a generic point in the moduli space the resulting theory has as its low-energy limit N=1 supergravity theory in six dimensions with eight vector, nine tensor, and 20 hypermultiplets. The gauge symmetry can be enhanced (e.g., to E 8 ) at special points in the moduli… Expand

AN ORIENTIFOLD OF TYPE-IIB THEORY ON K3
Abstract A new orientifold of Type-IIB theory on K3 is constructed that has N =1 supersymmetry in six dimensions. The orientifold symmetry consists ofaa |Z 2 involution of K3 combined withExpand
Compactifications of M-Theory to two dimensions
Abstract Compactifications of M-Theory to two dimensional space-time on (K3 × T 5)/ Z 2 and (K3 × K3 × S 1)/ Z 2 orientifolds are presented. These orientifolds provide examples of anomaly free chiralExpand

TLDR
Several Orientifolds of M-Theory are presented by additional projections with respect to the finite abelian automorphism groups of K_3 by constructing explicit examples which can be interpreted as models with eight, four, two and one vector multiplets and $N=1$ supersymmetry in six dimensions. Strong coupling expansion of Calabi-Yau compactification
Abstract In a certain strong coupling limit, compactification of the E8 × E8 heterotic string on a Calabi-Yau manifold X can be described by an eleven-dimensional theory compactified on X × S 1 / Z 2Expand
A bound on 6D N=1 supergravities
We prove that there are only finitely many distinct semi-simple gauge groups and matter representations possible in consistent 6D chiral (1,0) supergravity theories with one tensor multiplet. TheExpand
A Note on orientifolds and F - theory
Abstract An orientifold of Type-IIB theory on a K3 realized as a Z2 orbifold is constructed which corresponds to F-theory compactification on a Calabi-Yau orbifold with Hodge numbers (51, 3). TheExpand
BPS quantization of the five-brane
Abstract We give a unified description of all BPS states of M-theory compactified on T5 in terms of the five-brane. We compute the mass spectrum and degeneracies and find that the SO(5, 5, ZExpand
Rolling among G 2 vacua
We consider topology-changing transitions between 7-manifolds of holonomy G2 constructed as a quotient of CY ? S1 by an antiholomorphic involution. We classify involutions for Complete IntersectionExpand
Nonsingular 4d-flat branes in six-dimensional supergravities
We show that six-dimensional supergravity models admit nonsingular solutions in the presence of flat three-brane sources with positive tensions. The models studied in this paper are nonlinear sigmaExpand
Multiple realisations of N = 1 vacua in six dimensions
A while ago, examples of N = 1 vacua and D = 6 were constructed as orientifolds of type IIB string theory compactified on the K3 surface. Among the interesting features of those models was theExpand
