The antihypertensive effect of phytolaccagenin is due to a decrease in vascular resistance and cardiac depressant effects, mediated via muscarinic receptors-linked NO pathway, inhibitory effect on Ca2+ movements (vascular), and activation of cardiacmuscarinic and blockade of β-adrenergic receptors.
