The purpose of this study was to verify the effects of short periods of exercise of different intensity on lymphocyte function and cytokines. Thirty Wistar rats, 2 months old, were used. They were divided into five groups of six rats: a sedentary control group; a group exercised for 5 minutes at low intensity (5 L); a group exercised for 15 minutes at low intensity (15 L); and groups exercised at moderate intensity (additional load of 5 % of body weight) for 5 minutes (5 M) or for 15 minutes…
Acute effects of high- and low-intensity exercise bouts on leukocyte counts.
TLDR
When the same participants were submitted to different exercise intensities, the acute and short-term effects of exercise on white blood cells were intensity-dependent immediately after exercise and 2 hours after passive recovery.
Effect of regular exercise on leukocyte function in young and middle-aged women
TLDR
The YW had a significant decrease in the viability of lymphocytes and neutrophil compared with that of MAW, and the lymphocyte proliferation of untrained MAW was 30% lower than that of unt trained YW.
Exercise training decreases proinflammatory profile in Zucker diabetic (type 2) fatty rats.
TLDR
Results indicate that aerobic exercise is anti-inflammatory in nature in the Zucker diabetic fatty (ZDF) rats that are more prone to develop type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Effect of oat bran on time to exhaustion, glycogen content and serum cytokine profile following exhaustive exercise
TLDR
It was concluded that the chow rich in oat bran increase muscle and hepatic glycogen concentrations, which may improve endurance performance during training and competitions, and a lower post-exercise inflammatory response can accelerate recovery.

Regular Exercise Enhances the Immune Response Against Microbial Antigens Through Up-Regulation of Toll-like Receptor Signaling Pathways
TLDR
Regular exercise enhances immune cell activation in response to pathogenic stimulation leading to enhanced cytokine production mediated via the TLR signaling pathways.
Changes in Some Immunoregulatory and Haemostatic Cell Counts in Pre- and Post-Exercise
TLDR
Findings show that exercise improved significantly the cellular level of total white blood cells and platelet count, of great importance to the immune defense and haemostatic function.
Repeated high-intensity Wingate cycle bouts influence markers of lymphocyte migration but not apoptosis.

TLDR
The results indicate that with repetitive high-intensity cycling, the response in CD8+ cells following the bout is likely due to cell migration rather than cell death.

Acquisition Delays Affect Lymphocyte Subset Counts but not Markers of Exercise-induced Apoptosis
TLDR
The number of apoptotic cells in any lymphocyte subset was unaffected by processing, and it is possible that exercise makes lymphocytes more susceptible to necrosis during the post-activity period.

N-acetyl-L-cysteine inhibits exercise-induced lymphocyte apoptotic protein alterations.
TLDR
Results suggest that oxidative stress acting through a mitochondrial pathway may play a role in intestinal lymphocyte apoptosis after strenuous exercise.
The effects of altered exercise distribution on lymphocyte subpopulations
TLDR
The results indicated that provided the amount of exercise is constant for a given period, then exercise distribution is not a critical variable in the alteration of lymphocyte subpopulations that may occur in response to overload training, however 2 weeks of overload training followed by 1 weeks of active recovery (baseline) training may induce an increase in the lymphocyte count.
Impact of treadmill exercise on early apoptotic cells in mouse thymus and spleen.
TLDR
Submaximal exercise is associated with a lower % of thymocytes expressing early markers of apoptosis, despite elevated plasma corticosterone levels, and additional studies are necessary to identify the mechanisms for this shift in proportions of apoptotic and viable cells in lymphoid compartments with exercise.
Beneficial effect of glutamine on exercise-induced apoptosis of rat neutrophils.
TLDR
The protective effect of glutamine on neutrophil apoptosis induced by acute exercise possibly occurs by preservation of mitochondrial function.
Effect of water polo practice on cytokines, growth mediators, and leukocytes in girls.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that an intense "real-life" exercise bout in adolescent females leads to profound increases in inflammatory cytokines and reductions in anabolic mediators with substantial alterations in white blood cell subpopulations and adhesion molecules.
Acute Psychological Stress and Exercise and Changes in Peripheral Leukocyte Adhesion Molecule Expression and Density
TLDR
The data indicate that both psychological stress and e-ercise have significant effects on cellular e-pression of adhesion molecules on circulating leukocytes, which may have clinical relevance in sympathetic nervous system–induced immune activation.
Splenectomy impairs lymphocytosis during maximal exercise
TLDR
The major finding of this study is that the spleen is important for lymphocytosis during exercise, accounting for two-thirds of the increase in T lymphocytes and NK cells.
The anti-inflammatory effect of exercise.
TLDR
It is suggested that myokines may be involved in mediating the health-beneficial effects of exercise and that these in particular are involved in the protection against chronic diseases associated with low-grade inflammation such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
Exercise and the immune system: regulation, integration, and adaptation.
TLDR
Con considerations of the clinical ramifications of exercise in the prevention of diseases for which the immune system has a role is of importance, and the interactions between exercise and infectious diseases as well as exercise and neoplasia within the context of both aging and nutrition are addressed.
Determination of anaerobic threshold in rats using the lactate minimum test.
TLDR
The results suggest the application of anaerobic threshold determination in animal studies concerning metabolism during exercise by the "lactate minimum test" in rats during swimming exercise.
