Abstract Aspartate and glutamate represent a major class of excitatory amino-acid neurotransmitters in the vertebrate brain, and stimulation of gtutaminergic receptors by the specific agonist N-methyl-D, L-aspartate (NMDA) induces luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) and LH secretion.
