An ethnopharmacological investigation was conducted among the Baka pygmies of Dja biosphere reserve (Cameroon) to collect information on the antimalarial plants used in their daily life. Holarrhena floribunda is one of those plants. Extracts of the stem barks of H. floribunda showed remarkable inhibitory activity against drug-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum at doses of 1.02-18.53 microg/mL when tested in vitro against two parasite clones designated as Indochina (W-2) and Sierra Leone… Expand
THERAPEUTIC POTENTIALS OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACT OF LEAVES OF HOLARRHENA FLORIBUNDA (G. DON) DUR. AND SCHINZ (APOCYNACEAE)
TLDR
This study demonstrates the antibacterial and antimalarial activities of leaves of H. floribunda and then, supports its medicinal use in the treatment of microbial infections. Expand
Steroid Alkaloids from Holarrhena africana with Strong Activity against Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense
TLDR
The extracts and their alkaloid-enriched fractions displayed promising in vitro activity against bloodstream forms of T. brucei rhodesiense and provided useful empirical data for further development of steroid alkaloids as a novel class of anti-trypanosomal compounds. Expand
Cytotoxic constituents from the stem bark of Diospyros cuneata Standl.
TLDR
The phytochemical investigation of the stem bark of Diospyros cuneata led to the isolation of plumbagin, elliptinone, lupeol, atraric acid methyl ester, maritin one, betulin and betulinaldehyde, which exhibited cytotoxic activity against human cancer cell lines. Expand
Evaluation of Antiplasmodial activity of extracts and constituents from Ampelozizyphus amazonicus
TLDR
The results obtained in this work may partly explain the popular intake of A. amazonicus as an antimalarial remedy in the Amazon region. Expand
Cyclooxygenase inhibitory compounds from Gymnosporia heterophylla aerial parts.
TLDR
The results confirmed the presence of anti-inflammatory compounds in G. heterophylla which are important indicators for development of complementary medicine for inflammatory reactions; however, few could be useful as selective COX-2 inhibitor. Expand
Hypoglycaemic activity of ethanolic leaf extract and fractions of Holarrhena floribunda (Apocynaceae)
TLDR
The results show that the leaves of H. floribunda possess hypoglycaemic properties and strongly suggest that its usage in traditional and to a larger extent orthodox medicine may be fully explored. Expand
Triterpenes and steroids from the stem bark of Gambeya boiviniana Pierre
TLDR
Ethyl acetate extract was found to possess the most significant anti-inflammatory effect (67, 78%). Expand
Antimicrobial marine natural products from the sponge, Axinella infundibuliformis
