Overexpression of peroxiredoxin 6 (Prdx6) has been shown to protect lungs of mice against hyperoxia-mediated injury. In this study, we evaluated whether genetic inactivation of Prdx6 in mice increases sensitivity to oxygen toxicity. We evaluated mouse survival, lung histopathology, total protein and nucleated cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), and oxidation of lung protein and lipids by measurement of protein carbonyls and thiobarbituric reactive substances (TBARS), respectively.
