Loxosomatoides sirindhornae, new species, a freshwater kamptozoan from Thailand (Entoprocta)
@article{Wood2004LoxosomatoidesSN, title={Loxosomatoides sirindhornae, new species, a freshwater kamptozoan from Thailand (Entoprocta)}, author={Timothy S. Wood}, journal={Hydrobiologia}, year={2004}, volume={544}, pages={27-31} }
A new species of freshwater kamptozoan (Entoprocta) is described from the Mae Klong and Prachin Buri Rivers in central Thailand. This brings to two the number of known entoproct species occurring in fresh water. The new species, Loxosomatoides sirindhornae, grows as stolonate colonies; each diminutive zooid has a muscular, unsegmented stalk, and an obliquely oriented calyx. A well-formed hibernaculum originates from a short, lateral stolon at the base of certain zooids. The calyx bears a rigid…

The architecture of internal organ systems such as the musculature or the calyx-stalk junction hold more promising information for taxonomic and perhaps even evolutionary inferences in Entoprocta than external characters such as spination.

There are no experts on Entoprocta neither in Sao Paulo nor in Brazil, and due the low diversity of this phylum, it is only justified the capacitation of experts who also embrace other taxa, such as EctoproCTa (Bryozoa).

The neuroanatomy of Barentsia discreta (Entoprocta, Coloniales) reveals significant differences between bryozoan and entoproct nervous systems
- BiologyFrontiers in zoology
- 2019
The neuroanatomy of the colonial Barentsia discreta is generally similar to that of solitary entoprocts but differs in the anatomy and ultrastructure of the ganglion, the number of neurite bundles in the calyx, and the distribution of serotonin in the nerve elements.

Comparison of the myo‐anatomy of adults and asexually produced budding stages of the solitary entoproct species Loxosomella vivipara and L. parguerensis indicates that longitudinal and diagonal body muscles, atrial ring muscles, tentacle muscles, esophageal and rectal ring muscle, as well as intestinal and anal sphincters are probably part of the ancestral entop roct muscle bauplan.
Freshwater biodiversity in the rivers of the Mediterranean Basin

- 2012
A comparison of the ecological and biological traits of endemic and non-endemic species of three riverine groups revealed that endemic species have several strategies and mechanisms to face typical mediterranean-climate conditions, such as drought, when compared to non- endemic species.
