We have obtained moderate-resolution (R = 800-1200) K-band spectra for ~100 stars within and surrounding the cloud core of ρ Oph. We have measured spectral types and continuum veilings and have combined this information with results from new deep imaging. Using the latest evolutionary tracks of D'Antona & Mazzitelli to interpret the H-R diagram for ρ Oph, we infer ages ranging between 0.1 and 1 Myr for the class II and III sources (i.e., those that have emerged from their natal cocoons). • Physics
• 2000
We have obtained images of the Trapezium Cluster (140′′ × 140′′; 0.3 pc × 0.3 pc) with the Hubble Space Telescope Near-Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer (NICMOS). Combining these data

### A YOUNG PLANETARY-MASS OBJECT IN THE ρ OPH CLOUD CORE

• Physics, Geology
• 2010
We report the discovery of a young planetary-mass brown dwarf in the ρ Oph cloud core. The object was identified as such with the aid of a 1.5–2.4 μm low-resolution spectrum obtained using the NIRC

### Young Stars in ρ Ophiuchi: Toward the Completeness down to Substellar Masses

The ρ Ophiuchi molecular cloud hosts the most nearby embedded cluster with more than 150 young stars. Intensively studied since roughly twenty years, a significant fraction of the very low mass
