In adult renal transplant recipients, reports have shown continuing mortality beyond 5 years after transplantation with the majority of deaths due to myocardial infarctions, malignancies, and liver failure. Little information is available on the long-term survival of children following renal transplantation. Children with end-stage renal disease have fewer systemic complications than adults and should have better long-term survival.
