Surgical treatment of LM remains the criterion standard of therapy, but some patients present with extensive lesions, poor health status, and difficult-to-treat areas such as the face or refuse surgery. Numerous topical medications such as 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), retinoids, and azelaic acid have been used in the past, with mixed results.
