Dissatisfaction with heavyweight development approaches has lead to a proposal of agile methodologies. While heavyweight approaches are geared towards careful project planning, formalized quality assurance, and controlled and rigorous software development processes, the agile approaches focus on quick adaptation to change, and flexibility.
