Tibial fractures often follow high-energy trauma, and although soft tissue can remain intact, poor blood supply can lead to skin necrosis, infections and potential amputation. We used closed reduction and locking compression plates as external fixators for treating closed distal tibial fractures with soft tissue compromise.
