The present work describes the intrachloroplast localization and the changes that took place in the thylakoid and stroma-located superoxide dismutases (SOD, EC 1.15.1.1) and ascorbate peroxidases (APX, EC 1.11.1.11), in response to long-term NaCl stress in Pisum sativum L. cv. Puget plants. Native PAGE using high chloroplast protein concentrations pointed to the presence of the two main Fe-SODs, together with CuZn-SODs, both in thylakoids and in the stroma. Western blot and immunogold labelling…

Rapid inactivation of chloroplastic ascorbate peroxidase is responsible for oxidative modification to Rubisco in tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) under cadmium stress.
TLDR
This study indicates that APXs in the chloroplast is a highly sensitive site of antioxidant systems under Cd stress, and the inactivation of APX could be mainly responsible for oxidative modification to Rubisco and subsequent decrease in its activity.
Effect of abiotic stress on photosynthesis, respiration and antioxidant system in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii
TLDR
The data support that abiotic stress induces in C. reinhardtii an increase of active oxygen species (AOS), which parallel a significant inhibition of the photosynthetic electron flow, and that an active synthesis of glutamate and cysteine is produced in the cells treated with salt, methyl viologen or cadmium.
Salt and genotype impact on antioxidative enzymes and lipid peroxidation in two rice cultivars during de-etiolation
TLDR
The salt-tolerant cultivar CSR10 resisted stress due to its early preparedness to combat oxidative stress via upregulation of gene expression and enzymatic activities of antioxidative enzymes and a higher redox status of the antioxidant ascorbate even in a non-stressed environment.
Stimulation of antioxidant system and lipid peroxidation by abiotic stresses in leaves of Momordica charantia
TLDR
It is suggested that M. charantia exhibits a protection mechanism against oxidative damage by maintaining a highly induced antioxidant system under all three stresses.
Response of mitochondrial thioredoxin PsTrxo1, antioxidant enzymes, and respiration to salinity in pea (Pisum sativum L.) leaves
TLDR
A role for PsTrxo1 as a component of the defence system induced by NaCl in pea mitochondria is supported, providing the cell with a mechanism by which it can respond to changing environment protecting mitochondria from oxidative stress together with Mn-SOD, AOX, and PrxII F.
Expression of SOD gene and evaluating its role in stress tolerance in NaCl and PEG stressed Lycopersicum esculentum
TLDR
The antioxidative response of tomato plants to PEG stress was found to be more vigorous than the response to NaCl stress, and pointed to the importance of SOD for stress defense in tomato.
Short- and long-term effects of NaCl on physiological and biochemical characteristics in leaves of a true mangrove, Kandelia candel
TLDR
The results imply that K. candel can survive well at 250 mM NaCl conditions and become acclimated to seawater salinity (∼500 mM) for 60 days of exposure.

Differential response of antioxidative enzymes of chloroplasts and mitochondria to long-term NaCl stress of pea plants.
TLDR
The results suggest that the degree of enhanced tolerance to NaCl seems to require the induction of specific isoforms, depending on the different organelles.
Tolerance of pea (Pisum sativum L.) to long‐term salt stress is associated with induction of antioxidant defences
TLDR
The data strongly suggest that induction of antioxidant defences is at least one component of the tolerance mechanism of peas to long-term salt-stress.
Salt and oxidative stress: similar and specific responses and their relation to salt tolerance in Citrus
TLDR
It is suggested that the excess of H2O2 interacts with lipids to form hydroperoxides which in turn induce and are removed by PHGPX, a key enzyme in determining salt tolerance in citrus.
Activities of SOD and the ascorbate-glutathione cycle enzymes in subcellular compartments in leaves and roots of the cultivated tomato and its wild salt-tolerant relative Lycopersicon pennellii
TLDR
It is suggested that in the organelles of both tomato species, ascorbate is regenerated mainly by MDHAR, which contributes to the inherently better protection of Lpa from salt stress, as was previously reported.
Response of antioxidant systems and leaf water relations to NaCl stress in pea plants.
TLDR
The capacity of Puget cultivar to ensure cell turgor and to enhance the activity of enzymes involved in the defence against oxidative stress seems to be important in determining adaptation to moderate NaCl stress conditions.
Overexpression of iron superoxide dismutase in transformed poplar modifies the regulation of photosynthesis at low CO2 partial pressures or following exposure to the prooxidant herbicide methyl viologen.
TLDR
Observations suggest that the rate of superoxide dismutation limits flux through the Mehler-peroxidase cycle in certain conditions.
Salt-induced oxidative stress mediated by activated oxygen species in pea leaf mitochondria
TLDR
In the subcellular toxicity of NaCl in pea plants, at the level of mitochondria, an oxidative stress mechanism mediated by superoxide radicals is involved, and this results imply a function for mitochondrial Mn-SOD in the molecular mechanisms of plant tolerance to NaCl.
Antioxidant systems and O(2)(.-)/H(2)O(2) production in the apoplast of pea leaves. Its relation with salt-induced necrotic lesions in minor veins.
TLDR
The results suggest a strong interaction between both cell compartments in the control of the apoplastic ASC content in pea leaves, but this anti-oxidative response does not seem to be sufficient to remove the harmful effects of high salinity.
