Rat liver microsomes were incubated with the monofunctional aminoreagent fluorescamine. Although the probe easily penetrated the membranes, two pools of phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) could be detected. The first pool rapidly reacted with the probe and comprised 80% of the total PE.
