We consider ultracold atoms in 2D disordered optical potentials and calculate microscopic quantities characterizing matter wave quantum transport in the noninteracting regime. We derive the diffusion constant as a function of all relevant microscopic parameters and show that coherent multiple scattering induces significant weak localization effects. In particular, we find that even the strong localization regime is accessible with current experimental techniques and calculate the corresponding…

Coherent matter wave transport in speckle potentials
This paper studies multiple scattering of matter waves by a disordered optical potential in two and in three dimensions. We calculate fundamental transport quantities such as the scattering mean free
Quantum diffusion of matter waves in 2D speckle potentials
This paper investigates quantum diffusion of matter waves in two-dimensional random potentials, focussing on expanding Bose-Einstein condensates in spatially correlated optical speckle potentials.
Semiclassical spectral function for matter waves in random potentials
An ℏ-expansion is presented for the ensemble-averaged spectral function of noninteracting matter waves in random potentials. We obtain the leading quantum corrections to the deep classical limit at
Quantum transport of atomic matter waves in anisotropic two-dimensional and three-dimensional disorder
The macroscopic transport properties in a disordered potential, namely diffusion and weak/strong localization, closely depend on the microscopic and statistical properties of the disorder itself.
Diffusion and localization of cold atoms in 3D optical speckle
Abstract. In this work we re-formulate and solve the self-consistent theory for localization to a Bose-Einstein condensate expanding in a 3D optical speckle. The long-range nature of the fluctuations

Superfluidity versus Anderson localization in a dilute Bose gas.
TLDR
This work considers the motion of a quasi-one-dimensional beam of Bose-Einstein condensed particles in a disordered region of finite extent and compute analytically the interaction-dependent localization length, explaining the disappearance of the supersonic stationary flow for large disordered samples.
Three-dimensional strong localization of matter waves by scattering from atoms in a lattice with a confinement-induced resonance
The possibility of using ultracold atoms to observe strong localization of matter waves is now a subject of great interest, as undesirable decoherence and interactions can be made negligible in these
Analysis of localization phenomena in weakly interacting disordered lattice gases
Disorder plays a crucial role in many systems particularly in solid state physics. However, the disorder in a particular system cannot usually be chosen or controlled. We show that the unique control
Elastic Scattering Time of Matter Waves in Disordered Potentials.
TLDR
The strong influence of the disorder statistics is revealed, especially on the relevance of the widely used Ioffe-Regel-like criterion kl_{s}∼1, while it is found to be relevant for Gaussian-distributed disordered potentials, and significant deviations for laser speckle disorders that are commonly used with ultracold atoms are observed.
