We investigate the local stability of strongly magnetized relativistic tori orbiting Kerr black holes, for the case of a purely toroidal magnetic field topology. Our approach encompasses both solving the full dispersion relation numerically and solving a simplified analytic treatment. Both approaches indicate that such tori are subject to an unstable non-axisymmetric magnetorotational mode, regardless of such background properties as the gas-to-magnetic pressure ratio and specific angular…
Non-axisymmetric modes in three-dimensional magnetized tori accreting onto black holes
Magnetized disks accreting onto black holes are expected to be the central engine that powers up many high-energy astrophysical sources in the Universe. Understanding their dynamics is therefore
Magnetized thick accretion disc around distorted static black hole
In this paper, we constructed the magnetized thick disc model analytically around the static black hole in the presence of an external distribution of matter up to the quadrupole moment. This
Magnetised tori in the background of a deformed compact object
In this paper, we studied the relativistic accretion thick disc model raised by a deformed compact object up to the quadrupole moment. The goal of this work is to study the space-time and the effects
Effect of an external mass distribution on the magnetized accretion disk
In this paper, we constructed the magnetized thick disk model analytically around the static black hole in the presence of an external distribution of matter up to the quadrupole moment. This
Analytic solution of a magnetized tori with magnetic polarization around Kerr black holes
We present the first family of magnetically polarized equilibrium tori around a Kerr black hole. The models were obtained in the test fluid approximation by assuming that the tori is a linear media,
Non-linear evolutions of magnetized thick discs around black holes: dependence on the initial data
We build equilibrium solutions of magnetised thick discs around a highly spinning Kerr black hole and evolve these initial data up to a final time of about 100 orbital periods. The numerical
Epicyclic oscillations of thick relativistic disks
We study epicyclic oscillations of thick relativistic tori with constant specific angular momentum distribution using the finite element numerical method. We have compared frequencies of the
Papaloizou-Pringle instability suppression by the magnetorotational instability in relativistic accretion discs
Geometrically thick tori with constant specific angular momentum have been widely used in the last decades to construct numerical models of accretion flows onto black holes. Such discs are prone to a
On the decay of strong magnetization in global disc simulations with toroidal fields
Strong magnetization in accretion discs could resolve a number of outstanding issues related to stability and state transitions in low-mass X-ray binaries. However, it is unclear how real discs
Thin accretion discs are stabilized by a strong magnetic field
By studying three-dimensional, radiative, global simulations of sub-Eddington, geometrically thin black hole accretion flows we show that thin disks which are dominated by magnetic pressure are

Magnetized Tori around Kerr Black Holes: Analytic Solutions with a Toroidal Magnetic Field
The dynamics of accretion discs around galactic and extragalactic black holes may be influenced by their magnetic field. In this paper, we generalize the fully relativistic theory of stationary
A powerful local shear instability in weakly magnetized disks. IV: Nonaxisymmetric perturbations
In this paper, we continue our study of a powerful axisymmetric MHD instability recently put forward by the authors as the underlying cause of anomalous transport in accretion disks. The theory of
The Stability of Magnetized Rotating Plasmas with Superthermal Fields
During the last decade it has become evident that the magnetorotational instability is at the heart of the enhanced angular momentum transport in weakly magnetized accretion disks around neutron
A powerful local shear instability in weakly magnetized disks. I - Linear analysis. II - Nonlinear evolution
A broad class of astronomical accretion disks is presently shown to be dynamically unstable to axisymmetric disturbances in the presence of a weak magnetic field, an insight with consequently broad
On the stability of magnetized accretion discs
The shear instability of differentially rotating magnetized accretion discs is formulated as an eigenvalue problem. A monotonic instability caused by the presence of weak vertical magnetic fields,
