We derive the coarse-graining (CG) equations of incompressible Hall magnetohydrodynamic (HMHD) turbulence to investigate the local (in space) energy transfer rate as a function of the filtering scale ℓ. First, the CG equations are space averaged to obtain the analytical expression of the mean cascade rate. Its application to three-dimensional simulations of (weakly compressible) HMHD shows a cascade rate consistent with the value of the mean dissipation rate in the simulations and with the…

An In-depth Numerical Study of Exact Laws for Compressible Hall Magnetohydrodynamic Turbulence

Various exact laws governing compressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) and compressible Hall-MHD (CHMHD) turbulence have been derived in recent years. Other than their fundamental theoretical interest,

Energy Transfer, Discontinuities, and Heating in the Inner Heliosphere Measured with a Weak and Local Formulation of the Politano–Pouquet Law

The solar wind is a highly turbulent plasma for which the mean rate of energy transfer ε has been measured for a long time using the Politano–Pouquet (PP98) exact law. However, this law assumes

Fluid Energy Cascade Rate and Kinetic Damping: New Insight from 3D Landau-fluid Simulations

Using an exact law for incompressible Hall magnetohydrodynamics (HMHD) turbulence, the energy cascade rate is computed from three-dimensional HMHD-CGL (biadiabatic ions and isothermal electrons) and

General Exact Law of Compressible Isentropic Magnetohydrodynamic Flows: Theory and Spacecraft Observations in the Solar Wind

Various forms of exact laws governing magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence have been derived either in the incompressibility limit, or for isothermal compressible flows. Here we propose a more

Statistical properties of turbulent fluctuations associated with electron-only magnetic reconnection

Context. Recent satellite measurements in the turbulent magnetosheath of Earth have given evidence of an unusual reconnection mechanism that is driven exclusively by electrons. This newly observed
