Llamas are anesthetized conveniently with guaifenesin thiamylal mixes, or, for short periods of time, with xylazine/ketamine. Small individuals must be accurately weighed. Estimating weight without experience is dangerous in this species. The greatest levels of safety and control, especially for critical patients, is afforded by inhalation anesthesia techniques using small animal equipment.
