There is accumulating evidence that Wnt/beta-catenin signaling is involved in the regulation of liver development and physiology. The presence of genetic alterations resulting in constitutive beta-catenin stabilization in human and murine liver tumors also implicates this pathway in hepatocyte proliferation.
