The purpose of this paper is to report findings in post-MTX liver biopsies from 160 psoriatics treated with Methotrexate (MTX) in single biopsy and B. 68 patients with serial biopsies. At the time of liver biopsy the 92 patients had received a mehosis and six patients had fibrosis. Comparing these 7 patients with patients having normal liver histology (13 patients) revealed no statistically significant difference in cumulative doses of MTX, but a statistically significant higher admitted… Expand
The role of liver biopsies in psoriatic patients receiving long-term methotrexate treatment. Improvement in liver abnormalities after cessation of treatment.
TLDR
Eight of 11 patients with fibrosis or cirrhosis showed meaningful improvement in liver histologic findings after methotrexate treatment had been withdrawn for 6 months or more; none had progression of abnormalities. Expand
Liver Biopsy in Psoriatic Arthritis to Detect Methotrexate Hepatotoxicity
TLDR
It is suggested that routine liver biopsies are necessary to monitor for methotrexate hepatotoxicity in psoriatic arthritis and regular monitoring of liver-associated enzymes did not correlate with histologic deterioration in patients. Expand
Liver histology in rheumatoid arthritis patients receiving long-term methotrexate therapy. A prospective study with baseline and sequential biopsy samples.
TLDR
It is concluded that long-term MTX therapy in rheumatoid arthritis patients results in a statistically significant worsening in hepatic histologic grade, with common development of mild fibrosis. Expand
Rare incidence of methotrexate-specific lesions in liver biopsy of patients with arthritis and elevated liver enzymes
TLDR
MTX-specific liver lesions are rarely observed in arthritis patients under long-term MTX therapy and elevated liver enzymes, reflecting shorter treatment duration due to liver abnormalities. Expand
Methotrexate and histologic hepatic abnormalities: a meta-analysis.
TLDR
The risk of liver toxicity in patients undergoing long-term, low-dose methotrexate therapy is substantial, and that risk increases with the total cumulative dose and with heavy consumption of alcohol. Expand
A prospective analysis of liver biopsies in rheumatoid arthritis patients receiving long term methotrexate therapy
TLDR
It is suggested that prolonged MTX administration in RA patients did not cause severe hepatic abnormalities and no significant worsening of hepatic architecture was found after 4 to 71/2 years of MTX therapy. Expand
Hepatic effects of long-term methotrexate use in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease
TLDR
Cumulative methotrexate doses up to 5410 mg given up to 281 wk in patients with inflammatory bowel disease are associated with little hepatotoxicity, and surveillance liver biopsies based on cumulative methotRexate doses are not warranted in these patients. Expand
Liver histology in patients receiving low dose pulse methotrexate for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.
TLDR
The liver histology of 52 patients treated with intermittent low dose pulse methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis was evaluated using a modification of the Roenigk grading system, finding that hypoalbuminaemia occurred in 60% of those with grade IV (modified criteria) findings. Expand
Dynamic hepatic scintigraphy in the screening of psoriatic patients for methotrexate‐induced hepatotoxicity
TLDR
Dynamic hepatic scintigraphy may offer a means to reduce the number of liver biopsies necessary in patients receiving methotrexate for psoriasis. Expand
Methotrexate in rheumatoid arthritis.
TLDR
The recommendations for monitoring and selection of patients for liver biopsy identify patients at potential risk for CSLD, and thus significantly reduce the number or patients who would be exposed to this procedure. Expand

TLDR
To elucidate liver histology and particularly to rule out fibrosis and cirrhosis, a liver biopsy should be performed in every psoriatic patient with a low score in the risk index prior to beginning MTX therapy. Expand
