The presence of two liquid-crystalline phases, alpha and beta, in mixed bilayers of dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine/cholesterol was detected by the changes in the distribution of the fluorescence lifetimes of t-PnA, as analyzed by the Maximum Entropy Method.
