OBJECTIVE The 70 kilo Dalton heat shock protein is up-regulated when cells are under physiological stress. It prevents protein denaturation and incorrect polypeptide assembly, and inhibits apoptosis as well as the transcription of genes coding for pro-inflammatory cytokines.
