Bacterial endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide, LPS) induces coagulation of horseshoe crab hemolymph. Our previous studies had demonstrated that a hemolymph factor, designated factor B, was associated with the LPS-mediated activation of the Limulus clotting system [Ohki et al.
