Primary tumors of the heart are rare. Lipomas account for approximately 10% of all neoplasms of the heart and represent 14% of benign cardiac tumors. Symptoms may be produced by large lipomas, but more often the patients are asymptomatic and the diagnosis is made by chance. Recently, the ready availability of high-definition noninvasive imaging, such as echocardiography, CT, and MRI, have allowed easier diagnosis. Therefore, more cases have been reported.
