Recent studies of structure-function relationships in biological membranes have revealed fundamental concepts concerning the regulation of cellular membrane function by membrane lipids. Considerable progress has been made in understanding the roles played by two membrane lipids: cholesterol and phosphatidyl-ethanolamine.
