We review recent developments (up to January 2004) of the Liouville field theory and its matrix model dual. This review consists of three parts. In part I, we review the bosonic Liouville theory. After briefly reviewing the necessary background, we discuss the bulk structure constants (the DOZZ formula) and the boundary states (the FZZT brane and the ZZ brane). Various applications are also presented. In part II, we review the supersymmetric extension of the Liouville theory. We first discuss…

Conformal Invariance and Liouville Field Theory

In this work, we make a brief review of the Conformal Field Theory in two dimensions, in order to understand some basic definitions in the study of the Liouville Field Theory, which has many

The Annular Report on Non-Critical String Theory

Recent results on the annulus partition function in Liouville field theory are applied to non-critical string theory, both below and above the critical dimension. Liouville gravity coupled to $c\le

Liouville theory and matrix models: a Wheeler DeWitt perspective

We analyse the connections between the Wheeler DeWitt approach for two dimensional quantum gravity and holography, focusing mainly in the case of Liouville theory coupled to $c=1$ matter. Our

Liouville’s imaginary shadow

A bstract$ \mathcal{N}=1 $ super Liouville field theory is one of the simplest non-rational conformal field theories. It possesses various important extensions and interesting applications, e.g. to

Supersymmetric Liouville theory in AdS2 and AdS/CFT

Abstract In a series of recent papers, a special kind of AdS2/CFT1 duality was observed: the boundary correlators of elementary fields that appear in the Lagrangian of a 2d conformal theory in

Analytic continuation of Liouville theory

A bstractCorrelation functions in Liouville theory are meromorphic functions of the Liouville momenta, as is shown explicitly by the DOZZ formula for the three-point function on S2. In a certain

D-branes and complex curves in c = 1 string theory

We give a geometric interpretation for D-branes in the c = 1 string theory. The geometric description is provided by complex curves which arise in both CFT and matrix model formulations. On the CFT

On c=1 matrix model and 2D gravity - with emphasis on chiral formalism

In this thesis, we study the relationship between the effective spacetime the ory of Liouville string theory in two spacetime dimensions and the collective field of the c=1 matrix model by finding

UNIFORMIZATION THEORY AND 2D GRAVITY I: LIOUVILLE ACTION AND INTERSECTION NUMBERS

This is the first part of an investigation concerning the formulation of 2D gravity in the framework of the uniformization theory of Riemann surfaces. As a first step in this direction we show that

Duality of the Fermionic 2d Black Hole and N = 2 Liouville Theory as Mirror Symmetry

We prove the equivalence of the SL(2, R)/U(1) Kazama-Suzuki model, which is a fermionic generalization of the 2d Black Hole, and N = 2 Liouville theory. We show that this duality is an example of

Nonperturbative effects in matrix models and D-branes

The large order growth of string perturbation theory in c ≤ 1 conformal field theory coupled to world sheet gravity implies the presence of O(e-1/gs) non-perturbative effects, whose leading behavior

The Large-N Limit of Superconformal Field Theories and Supergravity

De Sitter Gravity and Liouville Theory

We show that the spectrum of conical defects in three-dimensional de Sitter space is in one-to-one correspondence with the spectrum of vertex operators in Liouville conformal field theory. The

Timelike boundary Liouville theory

The timelike boundary Liouville (TBL) conformal field theory consisting of a negative norm boson with an exponential boundary interaction is considered. TBL and its close cousin, a positive norm
